King County, WA to Implement IVR
PORTLAND, OR, April 15, 2004,—Selectron Technologies Inc.,
a provider of interactive solutions for government agencies, today
announced that it has contracted with King County, WA to provide
an interactive voice and web response solution for the Department
of Development and Environmental Services (DDES). DDES is a King
County agency that issues building and land use permits for properties
located in King County.
The Selectron solution, Voice & WebPermits, will integrate
with the County’s Accela ‘Permits’ Plus® land
management software, providing direct access to information in
real time. Customers will be able to schedule inspections, or request
information on a permit using the internet or any type of touchtone
telephone. The County will determine various criteria for scheduling
inspections, such as the cut-off time for processing requests,
and whether inspections can be scheduled if fees exist. No staff
involvement will be required for these transactions, which will
significantly speed-up the current process.
Inspectors for the Department will also use the system to post
inspection results from the field. As inspections are performed
in the field, inspectors can update the results of the inspection
via a cell phone, or they will have the option of entering results
through a web interface at the end of the day. In addition to indicating
whether a given project has passed or failed an inspection, the
inspector can enter codes indicate the reason(s) for any failure.
As soon as inspection results are entered using VoicePermits or
WebPermits, the information becomes immediately available to others
who use the system.
The project is currently in development, and is planned to go
live in the summer. The Department hopes to improve overall inspection
operations by making inspection request and reporting processes
automated.
