Glendale, AZ Building Safety Department Goes Lives with IVR
PORTLAND, OR, April 1,
2004—Selectron Technologies Inc., a provider of interactive solutions
for government agencies, today announced that the Glendale, AZ Building
Safety Department has gone live with VoicePermits, an interactive
voice response (IVR) system that allows users to process requests
related to inspections and permits 24 hours a day over the telephone.
“This application of IVR
further extends the services offered by the Department, and we are
proud to have been a part of this important technological project,”
said Todd Johnston, President and CEO of Selectron Technologies.
“I am also pleased to say that with the addition of Glendale,
Selectron has provided interactive solutions to four of the five
largest cities in the State of Arizona”.
The Department uses Hansen
Information Technologies' (Hansen®) Building Permits software
to manage building, use, and project planning applications.
Selectron software developers used an Application Programming Interface
(API) to integrate VoicePermits with the Hansen software.
This integration allows the IVR system and host database to “talk”,
which means IVR users can request specific information contained
in the database using telephone touchtones.
The City has been using IVR
to manage inspection requests for several years, but will see many
added features with the VoicePermits solution. An especially
beneficial feature of the new system is the ability to accept scheduling
requests until 5:00 a.m. the day an inspection is needed; a marked
improvement over the 12 hour notice that was previously required.
This feature especially impressed Joe Rivera, Building Safety
Manager for the City, “ Giving contractors extra time to schedule
inspections allows them to be more reactive with their schedule;
if something is ready, there is no need to wait another day for
the inspection. Another benefit for contractors is the ability
to interact with the system in either English or Spanish.
Users choose which language they prefer in the initial Menu Selection.
As the twelfth fastest growing
city in the nation, the City of Glendale has seen the number of
issued permits consistently increase over the past five years.
The City expects to issue more than 7,000 permits this year, and
has hopes that the new IVR system will provide citizens and contractors
user-friendly customer service and increase the efficiency of office
staff. In its first month since going live, the system has
fielded more than 3,300 calls. This number is expected to
increase as the year progresses.
